Performance Competition Team (partial state level FLL competition) $300
This is a team based activity that participates in the FLL state level competition for a high robotic performance score but keeps the research part of the FLL program to a minimum. This typically will exclude them from being able to win the Champion/Director award which allows them to go on to international level FLL competition. They will be eligible to win other awards. This activity is recommended for children that meet the requirements of the recreational group, are ready for a competitive team based activity and are able to stay engaged even if their ideas or designs are not incorporated into the team's final robot.
Recreational Group (individual activity, offered only if supported by parent volunteer) Varies ($200-$300)
This is a shorter Individual based activity where your child will build and program their own robot and at their discretion may participate in mini-competitions during class. This activity is recommended for those that are not sure if they are interested in a team activity but want casual participation. Recreational students should be able to stay fully engaged in a mechanical building and computer programming activity, self monitor their behavior, stay focused, avoid fantasy play, keep their hand to them self, handle it when things do not work the they way they had hoped, and be supportive of others. This group meets the first 6 weeks in the fall with the other teams and individually works on the FLL challenge. This is not a course or class, so student need to feel comfortable working on their own with only guidance by coaches per FLL rules. At the conclusion, students may join a performance competition team based on ability and interest and pay only the difference in the registrations.
